Seven & I Holdings | world domination
Alice Hines of Huff Post wrote one of the most thorough articles on the web about 7-Eleven’s global growth, chock full of information. She forgot to mention 7-Eleven Norway, which perhaps due to it’s proximity to Finland (the motherland of mobile tech), is still the only country that has a complete closed loop, CPG lead mobile coupon eco-system.

VKontakte | day two
So, I posted this a week ago and days prior, when stock douches were saying Facebook would double overnight and hit $68 a share, my prediction was $33. The Monday following the IPO, it hit $33. Here we are a week later. Facebook is almost at $25 a share, exactly where I predicted it would be and Russia pops up out of nowhere (yesterday) posturing via VKontakte Russia’s version of Facebook in...

AshleyMadison.com Tweets?
Huh? Why would people who cheat publicly follow a Twitter account for a site for cheating? My innocent mind is so confused like a little doe in the forest of life. Random thought of the day| what if DayUse-Hotels.com partners with AshelyMadison.com? Joint Venture? Here’s a cool enter to win a room on via DayUse-Hotels.com.

Russia's VKontakte social network not going public
As far as I know there are only a handful of Russian companies (Russian carrier Vimpelcom being the first Russian company to be listed on a US stock exchange) on the US stock exchanged. Russia’s VKontakte putting out this press release today that they won’t be going public due to Facebook flopping is nothing more than “posturing” and trying to soften the blow when a group...

7-eleven Hawaii & butter mochi
Part of what’s new this month at 7-eleven Hawaii (the group that owns the rights to the islands is aggressively expanding to over 100 locations in the next few years), is Butter Mochi. This is the first time hearing about Butter Mochi (meaning Sunday May 27th at around 1:25 EST). It turns out that it’s naturally gluten-free and made with rice flour.

Lake Mills, Wisconsin
On my list of places to visit. Why? Try an Oskri.com gluten-free fig chocolate bar and you’ll know why. Plus they power their facility with renewable energy. Their site invites you to visit them. While living in Minneapolis I was good for a pound of Wisconsin cheese a week.

green roof chicken coop
just want to share this with the world. I learned about GreenRoofChickenCoop.com through Eggzy.net. Eggzy seriously needs to win an award for the coolest project on the internet. I’ve been watching Eggzy grow for years. What would be kind of cool is if Green Roof Chicken Coop builds like a “double wide” version with solar panels that collect the sun so you can charge a car?...

convenience store delivery model
I discovered this site/project, beernchips.com that looks like either a concept or work in progress. This is the next phase of delivery. It’s only logical. With the online grocery market exploding, what makes more sense, on a hyper-local level than convenience stores? They have the parking lots. They have everything the consumer wants. They’re often less than a mile...

Speaking of hotels, The Catalina, part of South Beach Hotels (originally owned by Diane Lieberman), has a show premiering on the CW Network on Tuesday the 29th at 8/7c. Smart business people leverage physical assets, whether CPG companies or hotels and turn them into media companies. It’s a matter of survival. Example: Zevia.com, Zevia soda company.

motel 6 sold to Blackstone for $1.9b
translation: prepare for the long-term economic slump, but, fuck it, dress it up and let’s have some fun! #GoTeamAmerica. I like Stanley Turkel’s thinking and the fact he mentions Starck…re-enforcing my theory that Starck can shift from “the taxer of the rich” to the “taxer of the middle class”, trickle down trend-a-nomics?: Stanley Turkel: “If...

Facebook's big European adventure
So this weekend’s rumor is the Facebook may acquire Opera.com. From what I know, Opera has never been profitable. Here are their own words on how they generate revenue (they’re even admitting that it’s not transparent lol). Here you go. So, some douchy investment banker that doesn’t know about technology zooms in on these two things: 1) Opera’s possible mobile...

Why Huy Fong Foods is a $2 billion company
Huy Fong foods, makers of the wildly popular Sriracha completed a 655,000 square foot facility in Rosemead, CA back in the fall 0f 2011. Why do I feel Huy Fong is so valuable? Answer: Heinz Dip N Squeeze containers. People put their Sriracha on pizza, burgers, sandwiches. OK. Put their Sriracha into containers like Heinz’s Dip N Squeeze. Put their cool logo on the containers. Big chains...

How 50 cent could bankrupt Pinterest
Rakuten just invested $100 million into rival Pinterest. In case you don’t know, Rakuten owns Buy.com (acquired), LinkShare.com (acquired). Rakuten is essentially “going where the money is” and either cleverly (or not so cleverly) will be using Pinterest as a vehicle for affiliate marketing via Buy.com and LinkShare. Pinterest is pretty much a image jot pad for the wives of the...

Erply
Erply is an Estonian company that is now based in NYC. I watched them because they’re hustlers and they’re bad-ass software developers. Clearly, we also know that they’re on team Paypal. The screen shots here are Tweets from today. I’ll write a lot more on this, but at some point all of these services (like Square) need to open up their processing data. Geo-coordinates,...

gluten-free ale intelligence pours in through
Trusted sources (GOOGLE). Albany New York area beverage center owners are marketing a gluten-free ale. I guess this is a lot like where things are at in the food industry, in general. As the economy (well, doesn’t get much better), private label competes against brands. Once I’m done with this post I’ll have a closer look at how/why they use Paypal on their commerce site...

It seems there’s is a boom in Portland. Augmented reality provider Digimarc.com is based there. This video is about Digimarc’s platform and app enabling House Beautiful magazine with P-interest.  Chirpify.com, a social payment platform based on Paypal & Twitter secured some financing. They’re in Portland as well. In an all together different industry, Craft Brew Alliance...

according to NannyGoatsInPanties.com:
There’s huge demand for Kraft mac n cheese to go gluten-free. If you work for Kraft, you should reference this at your next board meeting. By this I of course mean NannyGoatsInPanties.com, not so much the gluten-free food demand.

me, on Facebook
Here’s what Facebook will turn out to be. “squads” of executives, that “work” for Facebook, re-circulating their own money via “apps”, bots, etc, that pumped the revenue up to $3 billion a year. Ad revenue via it’s 900 million users, yeah right, keep dreaming….The last “fuck you” to the upper middle class. If you put $10k, $50,...

mobile technology & food stamps
A smart mobile technology shop can swoop in and invent a business that deals with the under-served EBT “eco-system”. Connect the dots. Farmers markets. Food trucks….all roads lead to Paypal….article here. And maybe Square/Twitter.
